Text: Oyster Point Dermatology was established in Newport News, VA in 1987 by Susan Mackel M.D. and her husband Douglas Nelson. After serving as staff members at the University of Virginia Department of Dermatology, their goal was to bring university-style medical treatment to our community.
In 1998 our practice expanded to include Christine Marcuson, a fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon. This broadened our services to include comprehensive skin cancer management through Mohs surgery and general dermatologic surgery.
Soon after Dr. Marcuson’s arrival, we opened our second office in her home town of Williamsburg, VA, adding "Dermatology Specialists" to the name of the practice to reflect our increased services and locations.
In the following years, we were fortunate to expand and add Marnie Titsch in 1999, Pamela Cornelius in 2000, Michael White in 2011, Jennifer Ragi in 2013 and Emily Himes in 2015. Together we continue our mission of providing thorough, compassionate, hands on care with a focus on keeping the wellbeing of our patients as our primary concern.
Dermatology Specialists today
Our doctors are all board-certified members of the American Academy of Dermatology and trained at University medical centers. They maintain their cutting edge skills by regularly attending national, regional, and local meetings, and conferring with each other regarding patients with difficult to treat conditions. They also believe in a comprehensive approach to patient care, frequently discussing complex problems with other specialists.
All of our physicians live on the Peninsula and enjoy providing their community with comprehensive and compassionate dermatologic care.
